Science questions that students generated that could addressed by the end of the Academy

A. Beetles on frog carcasses
  1. Do the dermestid beetles prefer some dead stuff over other dead stuff (other carcasses, plants)?
  2. Does the rate of consumption depend on moisture?

B. Flies, honey and vinegar: We found live flies and dead yellow jackets (& a dead hornet) in traps.
  1. Do the flies eat the vinegar?
  2. Do wasps eat the vinegar?
  3. Are the flies attracted to the smell?
  4. Why did the yellow jackets die?
  5. Did the vinegar kill the yellow jackets?
  6. Did the flies kill the yellow jackets?

C. What kinds of insects attack fruit "carcasses"?
  1. Do different kinds of fruit attract different kinds of insects?
  2. Is there a sequence of decomposing insects for fruit that is similar to what we saw on the pig?

Record in your Science notebook:
Hypothesis - the question you are asking
Procedure - How are you going to set up the test for your question?
Variables to control for - what things could affect your study?
Data- What data will you collect and how will it be recorded? A table?
