Day 8 - Forest Ecology

Dr. Dan Druckenbrod (Environmental Science Faculty) led students in examining the environment on a larger spatial and temporal scale. The CSI Roadkill project is basically an exercise in island biogeography with the roadkill serving as a target organism with different decomposers arriving to that 'island' over time. Using remote sensing and GIS data to place Rider University in a larger environmental context, Dan led students on a walking tour of the environment, upstream of Centennial Lake. Students then used historical aerial photographs in the lab to investigate how the local landscape has changed through time.
